World tallest LIVING man

There are many men taller than China's Bao Xi Shun, Robert Pershing Wadlow whose height of 8' 11.1" qualifies him as the tallest person in history, as recorded in the Guinness Book of Records. Or Leonid Stadnik, a Ukrainian veterinarian, who at 4/17/2004 was recorded to be 8 feet, 4 inches and still growing. But people come and go (or to be more frank, live and die). Xi Shun, at 2.36 metre (7ft 8.95in) now claims to be the tallest living man when his was in Brazil to launch the 2007 edition of Guiness Book of Records. His world record height was only confirmed by Guinness World Records last year.

Mr Bao started a growth spurt at the age of 16. Doctors don't know the reason for his sudden surge in height, but said that it is not because of a medical condition. He had grown to 6ft 10in by the time he was 20. He joined the army playing and played for a military basketball team for 3 years. Unfortunately, he had to return home after his legs began to weaken.

After he failed to find a wife he became withdrawn. After the death of his mother, when he was 40, Mr Bao shut himself off from the world.

His life was transformed when a restaurant owner in the nearby town of Chifeng recruited him to work for ten days to meet and greet diners in 2004 when he seemed to thrive on his new popularity.

He was encouraged by the local people to visit a nearby hospital where doctors reassured him that he was not suffering from gigantism. He said at the time: ā€œIā€™m a normal person, growing naturally. I want to live a normal life like my father, who is 94.ā€

He spends his mornings walking on the grasslands and his afternoons playing cards with neighbours. And, this summer, he found a girlfriend whom he hopes to marry.
