Universe largest diamond outclassed world's largest diamond

The world's largest diamond, the 530-carat Star of Africa which resides in the British Crown Jewels, now has been completely outclassed by a discovery of a diamond star of 10 billion trillion trillion (1 followed by 34 zeros) carats by astromers at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. That is a figure which if written in 0's will go beyond the width of this page.

According to Travis Metcalfe who led the team of astronomers who discovered it, one would need a jeweller's loupe the size of the Sun to grade this diamond. They have named the star "Lucy" after the Beatles song, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, and is technically termed BPM37093.

The cosmic diamond is a chunk of crystallised carbon 4,000 km across, some 50 light-years from the Earth in the constellation Centaurus. It is the compressed heart of an old star that was once bright like our Sun but has since faded and shrunk. Its diamond core is surrounded by a layer of hydrogen and helium gases with the diamond core making up 50 -90% of its weight.
